ABOUT

ME

Dr. Huma Shireen, Ph. D.

I am a clinical psychologist licensed in Quebec and Ontario with a doctoral degree from McGill University. Prior to my doctoral studies, I completed my Master in Psychology (MPsy) in Counselling Psychology at the Adler Graduate Professional School in Toronto and my MA in Clinical and Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. My clinical expertise is primarily in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), unresolved grief, and relationship, parenting, and attachment issues. In my clinical practice, I work primarily with principles of mindfulness, internal family systems, emotionally focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Throughout my graduate training, I accumulated experience working with clients with depression, anxiety, psychosis, domestic violence, and trauma at various clinical sites such as the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal and the the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and Canadian Center for Men and Families in Toronto.

In addition to my academic background, my practice draws from my own experience in long-term psychotherapy, over ten years of daily mindfulness meditation practice, and an unrelenting interest and curiosity in all things mind and relationships. I also stand on the shoulders of many giants who have come before me, both in person and through readings. My goal in our work together is to help you develop compassionate awareness of your mind and body using presence, attunement, and resonance in order to harness the potential for neuroplasticity, healing, and growth. The goal is not to solve your problems but to join you in undoing the faulty patterns, symptoms, and suffering in your life as you move towards greater ease, well-being, and mental health.
